DAVY'S TURN
I am a Theatre Designer working across live performance, education, and socially engaged practice. My creative foundation lies in costume — with over 25 years of experience as a Costume Supervisor and Wardrobe Master on a range of productions, from intimate theatre to large-scale spectacles, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where I was Wardrobe Supervisor for all 4 ceremonies.
After completing my MA in Theatre Design with Distinction at UAL Wimbledon College of Arts in 2019, I was shortlisted for the Linbury Prize with just two speculative designs — a moment that affirmed the instinctive clarity of my visual storytelling and spatial imagination.
I now channel that same creative rigour into both design and pedagogy. My work thrives at the intersection of collaborative theatre-making and education, with a particular interest in community contexts and Higher Education. I see theatre not only as an art form but as a social practice — a space to explore material, feeling, and meaning collectively.
Currently, I am a Senior Lecturer and Year 2 Lead on the BA Costume for Theatre and Screen at Wimbledon College of Arts. I lead a cross-disciplinary collaboration with the National Gallery, now in its second year, where students develop responses to visual art through costume as emotional, embodied inquiry. My teaching is research-led and responsive, with a focus on inclusive and sensory design practices
I’m committed to cultivating learning environments that are participatory, critical, and deeply creative — where making is a method of dialogue and design becomes a way of sensing the world.
